Week of 5/4/2008
Cabin Fever
My updates have been getting later and later in the week, but this time I at least have a valid excuse beyond laziness. Ethan's two front teeth have been pushing through for the last week or more and in the past few days the pain of his teeth have been joined by a nasty cold, complete with fever and nausea. So it's been a great week for me, to say the least.
But now that he appears to have crossed over and his teeth have broken through, let's talk about cabins.
Some of my fondest childhood memories are of the cottage my grandparents used to rent just outside of my hometown on Lake Pesobic. They lived in Arkansas, but every summer would come up to Wisconsin and stay on the lake for a month or more. The cottage was small, charming, and twenty feet away from beautiful little lake. When they came up, I would abandon my house and spend the entire month with them, sitting on the dock, boating around the lake, and swimming. My favorite times were spent sitting on the porch watching it rain or each evening watching the sun go down. That porch was "my" spot. It was enclosed, so that's where my bed was and every morning I would wake up to a beautiful sunrise.
So it's not surprising that ever since my grandparents stopped renting the cottage and eventually passed away, I've wanted a place of my own; a place to get away, a lake to stare at, and now a place to take my son. It's something that Christine and I have talked about for a couple years, but I've decided that we need to make this happen sooner than later. I'm not sure if it's a result of the brutal, hellish winter we just endured, but the time seems right to at least get the ball rolling. So we've begun the search.
So far I've found one place that's close to what I want. It's got two bedrooms, a bathroom, a full-sized kitchen, and, of course, a porch. It's located on the Wisconsin River, just downstream from a beautiful lake. However, there is no dock, and this is key. While one can certainly build a dock, there may be some reason or ordinance for the lack of dock at this particular location. And no dock = no sale, my friends.
We'll see how it goes. I don't need to buy it tomorrow.
While I was typing just now, I had the trailer for Pineapple Express playing in the background. Sweet mother of God, this movie is going to be fantastic.
Anyway...back to whatever...
Yeah, I got nothin' left.
