UK Paper Love Nintendo's Wii
The Sun speak glowingly about the console after their playtest
Here's the article in full:
I'VE played the future of gaming - and it's absolutely Wii-mendous.
Ushered into a secret room, through a steel door more than three inches thick, I was given exclusive access to Nintendo's hottest games console to date, the Wii.And as you'll soon come to appreciate, this machine has got all the right moves.
That's because the console - previously codenamed Revolution - uses a motion-sensing controller that responds to the way you hold it.So playing a game like Tennis proves absolutely smashing. There I was, standing rather than sitting, and holding the remote-like control in one hand. Then, with a few simple swipes of my hand, I was serving, volleying and whacking balls across the virtual court without pressing any buttons at all.
Another title, Wario World Smooth Moves, was also a hoot.Packed full of hundreds of mini party games, you can swat flies, balance stuff on your hand, complete puzzles and wind machinery just by flicking and turning your wrist.
And ExciteTruck takes racing games to a completely new level too. With the controller held horizontally in both hands, you tip it left and right to steer and forward or backwards to gently lower the vehicle towards the ground when jumping.
It certainly takes some getting used to, but this move towards movement is fully engrossing and definitely the way forward in the enjoyment stakes. On Monday Sony announced that it was to include motion-sensing in the new control system for the PS3, months after Nintendo revealed its plans.
Unfortunately, Nintendo is staying tight-lipped on the exact street date and price, although the machine is likely to arrive in the UK in time for Christmas. And with its rivals selling for hundreds of pounds, don't be surprised if this sells for a bargain price-tag of under £150 as the firm mounts an all-out assault to win over casual gamers, women and mums and dads - to add to its core audience of pre-teens.
Wii is family-friendly gaming at its best. You really can just pick it up and play, even if you have never attempted to tackle a game in your life. But true Nintendo fans won't be disappointed either by what's on offer. wo huge franchises have been given the Wii treatment in Metroid and Legend of Zelda. First-person shooter Metroid uses an extra control mechanism that's held in your other hand as a joypad. Then using the remote, you point at the place on screen where you want to shoot. It's Zelda though, with its famous hero called Link, that truly shows what Wii is capable of.
Graphically, it is jaw-droppingly beautiful and the gameplay is truly revolutionary.Your moves will control Link's sword, his bow and, interestingly, his fishing rod.Again a flick of the wrist will cast your line and ensure he has enough food to sustain him on his long quest.
Wii is unlikely to beat the big two in the UK sales stakes but if it's priced cheap enough, will surely become the second console in every home.
Innovative, quirky and above all - lots of fun - Wii might have a silly name, but it's Nintendo that will surely have the last laugh as gamers across the world move to its beat.
SO even the Sun, the most casual of newspapers in the UK is loving Wii from their playtest. Interestingly, they pointed out to there readers that Sony stole the motion sensing idea...
